Granary Poľanovce
CVRAVIT Franciscus Iancso A. 1822
It was essentially a food storehouse, designed to remain cool even during the hottest summer days, thanks to its solid stone construction. Inside, there was a large, cool cellar where potatoes, apples, and other fruits and vegetables were stored. The floors and attic were made of thick wooden planks, with the attic used for storing hay.
The entrance was secured by massive oak doors, and small openings in the walls functioned as windows, allowing for air circulation. The roof, made of asbestos cement sheets, provided protection from the sun and rain.
Inside, a thick, hollowed-out tree trunk was used for storing grain, while a sturdy chest held flour. In addition to grain and flour, other food items were also kept there. The building served not only as a food storage facility but also as a practical space for storing tools and old clothing that was no longer in use. It was a simple yet essential part of daily life.
